Methi Matar Malai

Chinmayi Ravichandir

Updated: Jan 31, 2024

In love with this curry since I came across it when I was looking for Methi recipes. It is a super easy recipe and very tasty too.

Generally methi(fenugreek) is on the bitter side, the matar(peas) and malai(cream) are fantastic companions to cut through the bitterness and make this a very healthy gravy.

It take about 30mins to prepare 3-4 servings of the curry.

Ingredients:

  • Onion - 1 medium sized [roughly chopped]

  • Green chillies - 2

  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp

  • Cashews - 8-10

  • Oil - 1 + 1 tbsp

  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  • Methi leaves - 1 small bunch [finely chopped]

  • Peas - 1 cup

  • Salt - to taste

  • Sugar - 1/2 tsp

  • Garam masala - 1 tsp

  • Fresh cream - 1/2 cup

Method:

In a pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil. Add roughly chopped onions and sauté. Add green chillies, cashews and ginger garlic paste. Sauté and let it cool once onion is cooked. Grind the mixture to form a smooth paste.

In a kadai, heat 1 tbsp of oil. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter. Add the methi leaves and sauté. Add the green peas and let it cook for few mins. Add the paste which we prepared earlier and mix. add water if required to adjust consistency. Add salt, sugar and garam masala and mix well. Add the fresh cream at the end and give it a good mix.

I keep making this recipe a lot as methi is good for health and is a bit bitter for other green recipes. I love making methi matar malai with chapathi. Do let me know what you made it with.
