The perfect mixture for tea time during the Avrekalu season. The spicy and crunchy mixture is very easy and must try recipe.

Avrekai is synonymous with Hyacinth beans. It is usually available during winter mostly in south Karnataka. Avrekalu is referred to the seeds of the Avrekai.

It takes about 30 mins to prepare 2 servings.

Ingredients:

  • Avrekalu - 1 cup [peeled seeds]

  • Peanuts - 1/2 cup

  • Roasted gram - 1/3 cup

  • Dry coconut - 1/4 cup [sliced thinly]

  • Curry leaves - 5-6

  • Oil - for dep frying

  • Red chilli powder - 2 tsp

  • Salt - 1tsp

Method:

To prep for peeled avrekalu seeds, soak the seeds in warm water for 3-4 hours and then peel the outer layer of the seeds. Dry the seeds on a dry cloth for an hour before frying.

In a frying pan, heat oil. Deep fry the peeled avrekalu seeds till they turn golden brown. Transfer them to a large mixing bowl once fried. Similarly deep fry the peanuts, roasted gram, dry coconut slices and curry leaves separately and transfer them to the mixing bowl. Add the red chilli powder and salt when the ingredients are still hot and mix thoroughly.

This is a very simple snack and can be made in large quantities to be stored for months. Let me know how you liked it in the comments below.
